The Smile Scouts Program
Growing Smiles, Perfectly Timed
At Rechtin Jacobs Orthodontics, we believe the best smiles begin long before braces ever start.
The Smile Scouts Program is our signature growth guidance experience designed for children whose smiles are still developing. Instead of rushing into treatment, we carefully monitor growth during the years when teeth, jaws, and facial structures are changing the most. This allows us to step in at exactly the right time.
Think of it as a roadmap for your child’s smile.
What Is the Smile Scouts Program?
Smile Scouts is a complimentary orthodontic observation program for growing patients, typically beginning around age six or seven.
Once enrolled, your child becomes an official Scout and receives:
- Regular growth and development check-ins
- Monitoring of teeth, bite, and jaw development
- Digital imaging when needed to track changes over time
- Personalized guidance for parents at every visit
- A Smile Scouts Passport to track milestones
- Monthly Smile Scouts newsletters with helpful tips and featured Scouts
- Milestone celebrations along the way
Each visit is positive, educational, and encouraging. Children become comfortable in the orthodontic environment long before treatment is necessary, which builds confidence and trust from the very beginning.
Meet Chomper the Bear
Every great Scout needs a guide.
Chomper the Bear is the friendly face of the Smile Scouts Program. He helps make every visit feel like an adventure and celebrates each milestone right alongside our patients.
From passport stamps to shoutouts in our newsletter and social media features, Chomper brings energy and excitement to the experience. He reminds our Scouts that healthy habits, patience, and growth are all part of the journey.
Because growing a great smile should feel fun.
What Is the Smile Scouts Program?
Most Smile Scouts begin around age six or seven, which aligns with the American Association of Orthodontists’ recommendation for an early orthodontic evaluation.
At this stage:
- Baby teeth are transitioning to permanent teeth
- Bite concerns can first be identified
- Jaw growth patterns become clearer
- Early spacing or crowding may appear
Starting early does not mean starting braces early.
In many cases, we simply monitor growth over time. Observation allows our doctors to guide development naturally and begin treatment only when the timing is ideal for your child.
Sometimes the most important part of orthodontic care is knowing when to start.
Why Families Love Smile Scouts
- Peace of mind during key growth years
- Early identification of potential concerns
- Treatment timed for maximum efficiency
- Potentially shorter and simpler treatment in the future
- A positive introduction to orthodontics
- Confidence-building visits children look forward to
Camp Rechtin Jacobs: Summer Smile Evaluations
This May, we are celebrating Camp Rechtin Jacobs, our summer-focused initiative encouraging early orthodontic evaluations for pediatric patients.
If your dentist has suggested an orthodontic consultation, this is the perfect opportunity to explore whether Smile Scouts is the right next step. Summer is an ideal time to gather information, create a plan, and ensure your child’s smile is developing exactly as it should.
Why Smile Scouts Matters to Us
Orthodontics is about more than straight teeth. It is about guiding healthy development, protecting long-term oral health, and helping children grow into confident individuals.
The Smile Scouts Program allows us to partner with families early and provide thoughtful, personalized care at the right time.
At Rechtin Jacobs Orthodontics, we do not just create smiles.
We help them grow.
